Baltic Sea watchtower, Börgerende

The Baltic watchtower Börgerende is a former watchtower of the Border Brigade coast of the Border Troops of the GDR. As a maritime border observation tower (BT 11) he was one of a number of formerly 27 towers of this type on the Baltic coast of East Germany, two of which have survived. Another still preserved watchtower stands in cooling Born.

The tower is located near the beach. The East German border guards had orders to watch ship movements on the Baltic Sea from the tower and determine escape attempts. By means of a permanently mounted telescope with high magnification could scan from a 12 nautical miles wide area, the four -man crew from the pulpit.

The tower is accessible via an internal conductor. He is currently being restored (as of 2011 ).
