Baltimore Colts (1947–50)

The Baltimore Colts were an American football team that played from 1947 to 1949 in the All-America Football Conference ( AAFC ) and in 1950 was briefly housed in the National Football League ( NFL). The team wore their home games in Baltimore, Maryland, from the Memorial Stadium.

Foundation

In 1944 was founded as a rival league to the National Football League, the AAFC to life. Founded as the league by a sports journalist from Chicago who could gather many interested investors in Football around. The League awarded a total of eight franchises. A franchise went to Miami where the Miami Seahawks emerged. The League took in 1946 on the operation of gambling. After this season, the Seahawks have lost their licenses and awarded compensation to Baltimore for a new franchise of the AAFC.

Achievements

1947

The first coach of the team from Maryland was Cecil Isbell, a later member of the College Football Hall of Fame. Isbell adventures with his team's disappointing season. Only two of 14 games were won. With the outcome of the championship, the team had nothing to do.

1948

In 1948 introduced the AAFC play-off games. Before the season, the Colts quarterback YA Tittle with the could reinforce critical. Tittle, who was taken in 1971 in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, threw this season 16 touchdown passes. The Colts have won seven of 14 games and qualified for the play-off games. Opponents were the Bufallo Bills that could prevail with 28:17.

1949

The season started in 1949 disastrous for the Colts. The first four games were lost and Isbell was dismissed. Walt Driskill took over as coach. He could not prevent a game was won, however. After the season, the AAFC closed its gaming operations. The Colts were taken in the NFL.

1950

In 1950, Clem Crowe took over as coach. The team was unsuccessful. After just one win in the season the team ran into financial difficulties and had to stop playing mode after the game round.
