Geography

Baltmannsweiler is situated in 370-465 meters altitude in the virgin forest north of Plochingen. 69 % of the municipal area is forest area.

Neighboring communities

Adjacent municipalities in northern wine-growing town and winter creek (both Rems -Murr-Kreis ) in the east light forest, in the south Reichenbach an der Fils, in the southwest Plochingen, in the west of Esslingen am Neckar and Aichwald ( the latter five district of Esslingen ).

Baltmannsweiler is composed of the two districts Baltmannsweiler and Hohengehren, only from the main town of the same name. The territory of the districts is identical to the formerly independent communities of the same name. The official name of the district Hohengehren is Baltmannsweiler - Hohengehren. In the area of the district Baltmannsweiler are the disposed villages Balzschmied, Holdermannshofstatt, Upper hamlet and stone creek. In the area of the district Hohengehren are the disposed castle towns, Borg Hardt, Holde Steiningen, Katzenlohe, Steinenbach, wit Ling hamlets and Katzenbachhof.

History

Baltmannsweiler was first documented in 1299. The place was originally owned by the Zähringers and then came to Württemberg. It was there from 1381 to the Office, assigned later Oberamt Schorndorf. Since 1938 Baltmannsweiler belongs to the district of Esslingen.

Hohengehren

Hohengehren was mentioned in documents before Baltmannsweiler, namely 1275. The Countryaffiliation corresponds to that of Baltmannsweiler.

Religions

The end of 1998, the municipality had 1275 inhabitants, the Roman Catholic, and 2998 inhabitants, of whom were Protestant.

Today's Baltmannsweiler was formed on 1 January 1975 as part of the Baden-Württemberg territorial reform of the municipalities Baltmannsweiler and the northern Hohengehren formerly independent.

The coat of arms of the municipality Baltmannsweiler was awarded in October 1979. There is a connection between the two arms of the former municipalities Baltmannsweiler and Hohengehren. In the former game reserve was until 1839 the hunting lodge Hohengehren. This was acquired by the municipality Altbach, built there as the town hall and back to 1975 used in this function.
