Balzheim
Balzheim is a municipality consisting of the parts of the municipality upper and Unterbalzheim, in the Alb -Donau-Kreis in Baden- Württemberg.
The municipality belongs to the Gemeindeverwaltungsverband Teodone with headquarters in Teodone.

Geography
Geographical location
Balzheim, around 25 kilometers south of Ulm. The municipality is located in the Iller Valley and on the Iller, but has only a few hundred meters proportion riverside, with the border between Baden -Württemberg and Bavaria, follows the course of the river upstream of regulation.
Neighboring communities
The municipality is bordered to the north by the city Dietesheim on the east by the districts of Mr. Stetten and under oaks of the Bavarian municipality of Old Town, in the south of Kirchberg an der Iller and good cell Hürbel and to the west by Wain, all three in the district of Biberach.

The municipality consists of the two districts Unterbalzheim and Oberbalzheim.
History
Middle Ages
Balzheim was first mentioned on June 2, 1087. The name, however, is probably older pagan origin and intended to Baldur, the god of light, the Germans go back. In the 13th century the upper as well Unterbalzheim belonged to the rule of the Counts of Grünigen -Landau. Sell-through and subsequent inheritance, the area came to the Counts of Kirchberg, which sold it in 1490 to Walter Ehinger, who built a castle here until 1504.
Early Modern Times
In the middle of the 17th century Protestant religious refugees settled in Carinthia, Austria in Balzheim.
In the 18th century, a native of Esslingen am Neckar, in Vienna acting as banker Franz Gottlieb acquired from Palm ( 1691-1749 ) the goods upper and Unterbalzheim, Bodelshofen and Steinbach. In Esslingen, he had also built the Upper Palm 's construction, today's New Town Hall.

Specialty
A particular specialty is the Balzheimer sausage called " Balzheimer ". This is in the region as " Lutheran " since it was brought by the Protestant religious refugees with after Balzheim.
