Bamako-Initiative

The Bamako Initiative was a 1987 taking place in the capital, Bamako, the West African country of Mali, WHO conference, the sub-Saharan Africa sustainable changes in health policy.

There were sought ways out of the looming financial crisis of public health facilities in African countries. The result was a program that aims to reinforcing the involvement of the population in the establishment and maintenance of health facilities. It consists of the decision to revitalize health care facilities by means of a co-financing model. This is based on economic ownership of the local population, whether through simple insurance schemes or through tariffication of treatments and medications.

The Bamako Initiative was implemented in the sequence isolated in Asia and Latin America.
