Bamberg potato

Bamberger Hörnla, also Bamberg potatoes, is an old potato variety from Franconia. The applicable as waxy potatoes are small and have an elongated, curved shape. You have solid bright yellow flesh and a nutty flavor. The variety is good for potato salad. Bamberger Hörnla are mainly grown in southern Germany. The potato variety is again very popular in connection with the return to traditional varieties. The species threatened with extinction because of the growing consuming and the yield is rather low. In addition, the Hörnla can not harvest mechanically. Outside the regions the variety is therefore often only in gourmet shops, from specialist dealers and get in health food stores.

The Bamberg Hörnla be due to a large similarity rat confused with the French La and replaced by the more profitable and thus more favorable variety. The Hörnla was elected by agricultural and environmental organizations to the " potato of the year 2008" in the International Year of the Potato 2008.
