Bamburgh

Bamburgh is a village in Northumberland in England, about 32 miles south of Berwick -upon- Tweed, situated on the North Sea coast. The village has about 500 inhabitants. It is overlooked by Bamburgh Castle, which was the seat of the Northumbrian kings since the 6th century.

The St. Aidan's Church in Bamburgh witness to a missionary work of the Holy Aidan, on the neighboring island of Lindisfarne founded the eponymous monastery in the year 635.

The long sandy beach of the village is marked as particularly clean beach since 2005. There are wide dunes that are of special scientific interest between the castle and the open sea.

  • Grace Darling (1815-1842) saved on a stormy night on the Farne islands several sailors after an accident.

  • William George Armstrong, 1st Baron Armstrong ( 1810-1900 ) was Bamburgh Castle restore. The castle is in the possession of his descendants.
