Ban Mi District

Amphoe Ban Mi ( Thai: อำเภอ บ้านหมี่ ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district ) in the west of the province of Lopburi. The Lopburi province is located in the central region of Thailand.

Geography

The main water resource of Ban Mi is the Maenam Bang Kham ( Bang Kham River ) and the Khlong Anusasanan ( Anusasanan channel).

Adjacent Amphoe are seen from the northeast: the Amphoe Nong Muang, Khok Samrong, Mueang Lop Buri and Tha Wung Lopburi Province, Amphoe In Buri Singburi Province and Amphoe Takhli of Nakhon Sawan.

History

The county was founded in 1883 initially with the name Sanam Chaeng. When the administration was moved to Ban Huay Kaew, the county was renamed at the same time in Huay Kaew. In 1898, the government had built the Northern railway line through the county, so the administration was moved to Ban Sao ( Thai บ้าน เซ่า ) and the name of the circle again renamed in Sanam Chaeng. 1914 was followed by a name change to Ban Sao, the name of the tambon where was the administration. 1940 Ban Mi finally got its present name.

Etymology

Ban Mi is the name of an ancient settlement by the tribe of the Phuan who emigrated here in 1870 from Laos to Siam. They named their new village by the way, as they wove cotton and silk Mat Mi ( มัดหมี่ ) in Thai. Even today, there are numerous companies that sell through OTOP (One Tambon One Product ) their award-winning products.

Attractions

  • Wat Khao Wongkhot ( Thai: วัด เขา วงกต ) - Buddhist temple ( wat ) at the foot of Sanam Daeng Mountain. The mountain is a large cave, bats sleep in the daytime. Around 18:00 clock leave the bats in a spectacular swarm the cave to go in search of food. It takes up to two hours, until all have left the cave. The temple generates a small income by bat droppings is sold.

Management

The circle is in 22 subdistricts (tambon ) divided, the further into 157 villages ( Muban ) are divided.

Ban Mi itself ( เทศบาล เมือง บ้านหมี่ ) has a city - state ( thesaban Mueang ) and there is the whole tambon Ban Mi

There are also 21 " Tambon Administrative Organizations" (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - administrative organizations).
