Ban Non Wat

Province

Ban Non Wat ( Thai บ้าน โนน วัด ) is a village in the municipality of Mu 11 ( tambon) Phon Songkhram district ( Amphoe ) Non Sung, Nakhon Ratchasima province, near the small town of Phimai.

Ban Non Wat is surrounded by a ditch archaeological place in the catchment area of the River Mun on the Khorat plateau of about 892 m² surface where since 2002 under the direction of Charles Higham, today from Dr. Nigel Chang Earthwatch Institute funded excavations take place. The objects and the circumstances go back to the Neolithic, the Bronze Age and the Iron Age. They found a prehistoric center of the copper recovery. In particular, the 637 graves are examined, containing a lot of artefacts. It is believed that the area is inhabited continuously since about 3000 years ago ( Higham, 2009).

According to recent findings, the production of bronze began as a short cultural eruption around 1000 BC Subsequently, the population increased in the neighborhood apparently massively. In the early Iron Age salt was extracted in great style. At the same time social tensions created what might. Emerging on the production of iron weapons and the construction of walls and ditches around the settlements These factors eventually led to the rapid formation of early Southeast Asian Nations in the 4th and 5th centuries.

The surrounding rice fields are very likely irrigated for thousands of years. Many of the finds point to the Khmer culture, which is not surprising, since the location close to the old overland connection of the Khmer Empire to the west lies the Chaophraya and through the valley of the Mun offers easy access to the Mekong.

Nearby is the archaeological site of Ban Prasat also significant.
