Ban Phaeng District

Amphoe Ban Phaeng ( Thai: อำเภอ บ้านแพง ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district ) in the north of Nakhon Phanom. The Nakhon Phanom Province is located in the northeast region of Thailand, the so-called Isaan.

Geography

Neighbouring districts ( from the southeast clockwise): Amphoe Tha Uthen the Si Songkhram and Na Thom province Nakhon Phanom, and Amphoe Bueng Khong Long in Nong Khai province. To the east, on the opposite bank of the Mekong River in Laos is the province Khammuan.

History

The area of present-day district originally belonged to the Principality ( Mueang ) Chaiburi, now part of Amphoe Tha Uthen.

Ban Phaeng in 1948 initially as a sub-district ( King Amphoe ) was established by being separated from Tha Uthen. 1952 Ban Phaeng was promoted to Amphoe.

In 1956, the Sanitary District ( Sukhaphiban - สุขาภิบาล ) Ban Phaeng was set up in 1999 to a small town ( thesaban tambon) has been promoted.

Management

Amphoe Ban Phaeng is divided into six communes ( tambon), which in turn in 75 villages ( Muban ) are divided.

Ban Phaeng itself ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล บ้านแพง ) has a small-town status ( thesaban tambon), it consists of parts of the tambon Ban Phaeng.

There are also five " Tambon Administrative Organizations" (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - administrative organizations) in the district.

Note: The missing geocodes are among the tambon which now belong to Amphoe Na Thom.
