Banco de Londres y América del Sur (Headquarters)

The Banco de Londres y América del Sur was a bank in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires, which later became Lloyds Bank in London. Its headquarters in the San Nicolás neighborhood was designed in 1959 by the Argentine architect Clorindo Testa.

Overview

1959 was announced by the Banco de Londres y América del Sur, a competition for development of land in the financial heart of Buenos Aires. A team, which included Clorindo Testa, Sánchez Elía, Peralta Ramos and others, won the competition with his design. The office building, which was completed in 1966, is one of the best known examples of international architecture in Buenos Aires, is the most typical example of the architectural style of Brutalism in Argentina.

In the 1980s and early 1990s, the building of the Lloyds Bank was, in 1997 it was sold to the just privatized Banco Hipotecario, a mortgage bank.
