The band canon 1 ( Bkan 1) is a Swedish self-propelled howitzer, which was used from 1967 to 2003 in the Swedish army.

History

Developed and produced the vehicle by the Swedish Bofors arms factory AB was under the name artillerikanonvagn 151 ( akv 151), which was originally based on the chassis of Swedish KRV carapace. Since the KRV project was canceled, however, had to be altered, eg based on the chassis now also produced by the Bofors tank Stridsvagn 103 In 1960 the first prototype was made ​​. Originally it was planned to produce 70 vehicles, due to budget cuts, only 26 band canon 1 were instead delivered. These 26 anti-tank artillery vehicles were used until 2003.

In the 1960s and 1970s, Bkan 1, the heaviest one in use was self-propelled howitzer in the world - yet the engine was relatively weak and insufficient. Despite the stigma, an acceptable driving range of 230 km was achieved.

Versions

The band self-propelled howitzer cannon 1 appeared in two versions:

  • Band canon 1A: Original version, only one band canon
  • Band canon 1C: modified in the 1980s, especially improved powertrain and introduction of POS 2 navigation system for fire control, etc.
