Bandol

Bandol is a resort on the coast of Provence ( Côte d' Azur ), in the department of Var and is home to 7663 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011). Bandol is located between Marseille ( 51 km) and Toulon ( 18 km) and is a growing area for wine.

Well known are the beautiful coastal walks ( sentiers côtiers ).

Bandol wine region

The 1,419 -acre wine region Bandol has since November 11, 1941 the status of an Appellation d' Origine ( AOC short ). The vineyards of the communities Bandol, Bandol Le, La Cadière- d'Azur, Le Castellet, Évenos, Ollioules, Sanary -sur -Mer and Saint- Cyr- sur -Mer are permitted within the AOC. The layers are oriented to the south. The annual sunshine duration is about 3000 hours, the rainfall is about 600 mm / year. There are grown both white wine, red wine and rosé wine.

  • Red: The red wine of Bandol consists of up to 50-95 % from the grape Mourvèdre. In addition, Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah and Carignan are still allowed. The proportion of the last two varieties together is max. 20%. Due to the large proportion of Mourvedre wines are strong and full of ripe tannins. The wine can be stored for 10 to 20 years. At the winery the wine spends at least 18 months in oak barrels.
  • Rosé: The rosé from Bandol consists of 10 (20 % from the year 2014) to 95 % from the grape Mourvèdre. In addition, the red varieties Grenache, Cinsault and the white varieties Bourboulenc, Clairette Blanche and Ugni Blanc are still permitted. In the white varieties, the proportion of each variety on max. 10% and the sum of all the white varieties to max. 20 % fixed.
  • White Wine: White wine of Bandol consists of the vine Bourboulenc, Clairette Blanche and Ugni Blanc. In addition, the varieties Marsanne, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Vermentino are still on a small scale (also called role ) approved.

Bandol is twinned with the Italian Nettuno, the Swiss Canton of Geneva Onex and the Baden defense.
