Bandola

The Bandola is a plucked string instrument, the horn with a flexible plate ( plectrum ) is played. It is particularly common in Venezuela and Colombia and is related to the Spanish bandurria.

The Bandola evolved from the lute in the period of Arab occupation of Spain. They have 4, 8, 16 or 18 strings.

The Bandola has three main forms:

  • The Bandola llanera ( 4 strings )
  • The Bandola andina colombiana (12 to 18 strings )
  • The Bandola oriental (8 strings )
