Bandyliiga

The Bandyliiga is the highest league in Finland Bandysport.

History

The first Finnish Championship in bandy in 1908 fought. So Bandy was the first team sport at all, in a Finnish national champion was determined before the ice hockey and soccer. By 1972 the Finnish Bandysport was still organized under the umbrella of the Finnish Football Association, since the championships organized by the Finnish Bandyverband ( Suomen Jääpalloliitto ).

Except for the war years 1918, 1940 and 1942 champion has been determined since the founding of the league every year. Until the Second World War dominated Bandyvereine from Viipuri ( Vyborg German ) and the Helsinki championships. Helsingfors IFK has 17 league titles the most successful club in Finland.

The Bandyliiga is a semi-professional league today; it also represents an important reservoir for the young Swedish Elitserien, the only Bandy professional league in the world.
