Bang Krathum District

Amphoe Bang Krathum ( Thai อำเภอ บางกระทุ่ม ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district ) in the south of the province of Phitsanulok in northern Thailand.

Etymology

The name of Bang Krathum refers to settlement ( Thai: บาง - bang ) and the rose blossom tree ( Anthocephalus chinensis, Thai: กระทุ่ม Krathum ).

Geography

Bang Krathum lies predominantly within the basin of Maenam Nan ( Nan River ). A narrow strip of land in the West is located to the basin of the Yom Maenam ( Yom River ). Both rivers flow to the Chaophraya. During the Yom forms the western boundary of the province of Phichit Bang Krathum, the Nan, the Khwae Wang Thong ( Wang Thong Creek ) and the Wat Ta Yom flow through the county.

Amphoe Bang Krathum located in the south of the province of Phitsanulok and borders from north clockwise as seen in the following Amphoe: Mueang Phitsanulok and Wang Thong in the province of Phitsanulok and Amphoe Sak Lek, Mueang Phichit and Sam Ngam in the province of Phichit.

History

The small district ( King Amphoe ) Bang Krathum 1946 was upgraded to a full Amphoe.

Economy

The economy of Bang Krathum is dominated by the farming and cattle breeding. Main crops are rice alongside sugar cane, oranges, bananas, tamarind, cassava, soybean and mung beans. There are also companies that manufacture and packaging of dried fruits, including dried bananas and tamarinds, and they sell throughout Thailand and export to other countries. Also, a larger device for the extraction of sugar from sugar beet works in Bang Krathum that of the Phitsanulok Sugar Co. Ltd.. Is operated.

Attractions

44 Buddhist temples ( Wat ) are located in Amphoe Bang Krathum, of which Wat Kungsri Jayrin has a historically interesting Chedi.

Take place each year in Ban Dongphayom race with the Thai longboats.

Management

Amphoe Bang Krathum consists of nine sub-districts ( tambon), which further into 87 villages ( Muban ) are divided.

There are four small towns ( thesaban tambon) in the district:

  • Bang Krathum ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล บางกระทุ่ม ) consists of parts of the tambon Bang Krathum,
  • Noen Kum ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล เนิน กุ่ม ) consists of the whole tambon Noen Kum and Wat Ta Yom,
  • Huay Kaeo ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ห้วย แก้ว ) consists of other parts of the tambon Bang Krathum,
  • Sanam Khli ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล สนาม คลี ) consists of the whole Tambon Sanam Khli.

There are also five " Tambon Administrative Organizations" (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - administrative organizations) in the district.
