The Bani is a right tributary of the Niger River in Mali with a length of 430 kilometers. He developed 100 kilometers east of Bamako as the confluence of the rivers Baoulé and Bagoé and flows near the city of Mopti in the Niger.

Already Herodotus mentions the Bani as " navigable river ", which a Persian delegation had traveled in search of the gold country. Every year the river flooded an otherwise arid area where 500,000 people live. It is planned to build the Talo Dam, a five-meter high and 295 meter long dam near the town of San in the Ségou region in order to save as the river water throughout the year can. At high tide, the wall would be flooded and in the dryness controlled water should be drained. In the downstream residents living example of Djenné, the plan led to violent protests.

Hydrometrie

The flow rate of the flow was measured over 62 years ( 1922-94 ) in Douna, a city in Mali, about 150 kilometers upstream from the confluence with the Niger. The observed in Douna mean annual flow rate during this period was 513 m³ / s

The average monthly flow of the river Bani measured at the hydrological station of Douna ( in m³ / s) ( Calculated using the data for a period of 62 years, 1922-94 )
