Bank of New York

The Bank of New York Company, Inc. was a financial company from the United States, based in New York City. The company was listed on the stock index S & P 500 and employed 22 961 employees in 2006. Following a merger with the Mellon Financial Corporation, the company operates under the name of The Bank of New York Mellon Corporation ( BNY Mellon ).

History

The Bank of New York was founded in 1784 by Alexander Hamilton and is the oldest bank in the United States. On 9 June 1784, the Bank in Manhattan opened their business in Walton House. 1792, the Bank of New York became the first company traded on the New York Stock Exchange. 1922 merged the Bank of New York with the company New York Life Insurance & Trust Company.

The Bank of New York acquired in 1948, the financial institution The Fifth Avenue Bank and 1966, the financial institution Empire Trust Company was acquired. In 1988 the company acquired the Bank Irving Bank Corporation and moved its headquarters to the One Wall Street, now known as Bank of New York Building. In the 1990s, the Bank of New York acquired the company National Community Banks and Putnam Trust Company. A next major acquisition occurred in 2003 with the acquisition of the company Pershing LLC. Overall, in addition to these major acquisitions were made eighty further acquisitions in the last decade. In April 2006, the Bank of New York exchanged their private banking division against the relatively equivalent corporate trust area of JP Morgan Chase.
