Bank Pekao

The Bank Pekao S. A. is a Polish bank headquartered in Warsaw. The company is listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange in the Polish stock market index WIG 20. It serves 5 million customers, of which 250,000 small and medium businesses and 15,000 large farms. There are 1041 branches and 1891 ATMs. 2008 had achieved 4 billion zlotys net profit. December 31, 2008 included the UniCredit SpA 59.28 % of the Pekao shares. In the same year she was honored by the magazine The Banker entitled " Best Bank in Poland in 2008". The magazine Euro Money forgave her the same title.

Founding and history of the company

In March 1929, the Polish Minister of Finance issued a decree on the establishment of Bank Polska Kasa Opieki Spółka Akcyjna, based on which the bank was founded in October 1929. It was registered shortly in Warsaw. First Director of the Bank was Eugeniusz Baczkowski. The bank was established as a universal bank and thus comprised the asset and liability business, including international financial transactions. One of the main tasks of the Bank was the supply of Polish emigrants to financial services, and therefore, the bank opened in centers of Polish emigrants branches. This included Paris, where the Pekao took office in February 1930. Followed in 1931 by founded as a subsidiary Banco Polaco Polska Kasa Opieki in Buenos Aires.
