Bank Zachodni WBK

The Bank Zachodni WBK S. A. (BZ WBK ) is a universal bank in Poland. It has a capital of two billion zloty and assets in the amount of about 25 billion zloty, making it one of the largest banks in Poland. Main shareholder with a stake of 70.36 percent, the Banco Santander.

History

It was created on 13 June 2001 by the merger of Bank Zachodni SA and Wielkopolski Bank Kredytowy S. A. Chairman of the Board was Marian Górski, who worked in the Wielkopolski Bank Kredytowy since 1996 in this position. Since May 2007 Mateusz Morawiecki is Chairman of the Board. In 2005 the company generated a profit of 689.5 million zloty (about 171 million euro ) before taxes, with total assets of 29 604 million zloty.

On 10 September 2010 it was announced that Spain's Banco Santander of the Irish Allied Irish Banks accounted for 70.36 % of Bank Zachodni WBK SA acquired for about 2.9 billion euros. In addition, the Banco Santander paid an extra 150 million euros for the 50 % of BZWK AIB Asset Management. Overall, the value of the transaction amounts to 3.1 billion euros.

In February 2012, the parent company Banco Santander announced the merger of Bank Zachodni WBK with Kredyt Bank a subsidiary of the Belgian KBC Group. Controlling shareholder of the new banking house in the Banco Santander with 76.5 %, while the KBC Group is initially involved with a share of 16.4%. Minority - Investors will hold 7.1% of the shares. The KBC Group has also announced a sale of its stake.
