Banner County, Nebraska

The Banner County is a county located in the U.S. state of Nebraska. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Harrisburg, which was named after the city of Harrisburg in Pennsylvania.

The County is located in the extreme west of Nebraska to the border with Wyoming, is located in the south about 40 miles from Colorado and has an area of 1933 square kilometers without significant water surface. It is bordered by the following counties:

History

The Banner County was formed in 1888 from parts of Cheyenne County.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Banner County 819 people in 311 households, and 237 families. The population density was 0.4 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 95.9 percent white, 0.1 percent African American, 0.2 percent Native American, 0.1 percent Asian, and 3.1 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.6 percent were descended from two or more races. 5.6 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race, were members of the various groups mentioned.

Of the 311 households out of which 30.2 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 70.1 percent were married couples living together, 4.2 percent were single mothers, 23.5 percent were non-families, 19.9 percent of all households and 9.6 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.63 and the average family size is 3.06 people.

Based on the county the population was spread from 28.8 percent population under 18 years, 3.7 percent between 18 and 24 years, 24.3 percent between 25 and 44 years, 27.2 percent between 45 and 64 years and 16.0 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 108.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were statistically 101.0 males.

The median income for a household in the 31 339 U.S. dollars ( USD), and the median income for a family was $ 41,538. Males have a median income of $ 25,250, women $ 18,750. The per capita income was $ 17,149. 12.3 percent of families and 13.6 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 19.0 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 11.1 percent of those 65 years.
