Banovo Brdo

Banovo Brdo is a village in the district Čukarica in the Serbian capital Belgrade.

The district has 5,887 inhabitants ( 2002). Middle of the 19th century built by the Croatian writer and diplomat Matija Ban on the hill of the village an estate, which was called the Banovac. After the urbanization of the area progressed, the places Banovo Brdo ( Banshügel ) was named.

During the First World War were buried in the cemetery in the adjoining park Košutnjak the fallen German and Serbian soldiers. The Field Marshal August von Mackensen was out of respect for the Serbian defender Belgrade one obelisk with the inscription "Here lie Serbian heroes " condition.
