Banpo

The village of Banpo was settled in the period 4800-3600 BC. In terms of time, it belongs to the Neolithic Yangshao culture. Today it is an important archaeological site and a major museum (灞桥 区) of the city of Xi'an is located in the district Baqiao in the Chinese province of Shaanxi.

In the social fabric Banpos it seems to have been no strict hierarchy. There were spun already at that time plant fibers and animal hair weaving threads and also Webstätten were found. Ceramic vessels have geometric patterns, simple characters, but also artistic pictures of human faces and animals such as fish and deer.

The Banpo site ( Banpo Yizhi半坡 遗址) is since 1961 on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China ( 1-139 ).
