The Indonesian town of Bantul is the capital of the administrative district of Bantul.

Geography

Bantul is located in the center of the island of Java, approximately 10 km south of the 600,000 population city of Yogyakarta. It is part of the Special Region of Yogyakarta.

History

On 27 May 2006, the town of Bantul was devastated by an earthquake. About 80 % of the buildings were destroyed.
