Banua Wuhu

The Banua Wuhu is a submarine volcano to the west of the island Mahengetang in the Indonesian chain of Sangihe Islands. Its highest peak is 5 meters below the surface, but extends 400 meters from the sea floor.

From 23 to April 26, 1835 formed on the basis of outbreaks up to 90 meters high island, which, however, was almost completely eroded by the sea until 1848. In eruptions from 6 to 9 September 1889, in turn, formed an island, with a height of 50 meters reached until 1894 and during outbreaks from April 17 to 18 and August 27, 1904 5 were formed crater. Another island, which was formed on 18 July 1918 to December 1919, disappeared until 1935 complete again. When an eruption in April 1919 rocks and embers rained down on the island Mahengetang and sat there houses on fire. Residents Mahengetangs had temporarily left the island.

Historical records show another outbreak from July to December 1895.
