Banyan Vines

Banyan VINES (Virtual Integrated Network Service) is a network operating system that works with proprietary network protocols which are derived from the Xerox Network System ( XNS ).

Vines implements an architecture according to the client -server model. It came out in 1984 and enjoyed until the mid- 90s, a certain distribution.

As a unique feature was VINES a directory service - Street Talk - introduced. It may be referred to as legitimate precursor modern directory services.
