Banyoles

Banyoles (Spanish Bañolas ) is a Catalan city in the province of Girona, northeastern Spain. It is the capital of the comarca of Pla de l' Estany.

Geographical location

Banyoles is situated about 15 kilometers north of Girona.

Worth seeing

The city is famous for its Estany de Banyoles ( tourist center and water sports). On 8 October 1998, a tour boat sank with 141 French tourists on the Banyoles Lake. The accident caused 22 lives and 38 injured.

The city has an old town dating from the 13th and 14th centuries. In the Archaeological Museum, " Museu Arqueologic Comarcal " archaeological finds of interest are issued. In addition, there is the Museu Darder.

In Banyoles 1990 La Draga, discovered a waterlogged settlement of the late cardial culture or early epi- cardial.

Rowing

For the rowers Banyoles is known at least since the 1992 Olympics, as there the Olympic regatta was held. Since then Banyoles is a popular training ground for numerous top European teams. 2004 World Rowing Championships were held in Banyoles.

Triathlon

In Banyoles the Premium European Cup competitions will be ( even a 2012 World Cup ) held in triathlon every year, even Carolina Routier, the Spanish Triathlon Champion 2011, comes from Banyoles.
