Baptistin Baille

Jean- Baptist Baille (* 1841 in Aix -en- Provence, † 1918 in Paris) was a French scientist and industrialist.

Baille grew up in Aix -en- Provence, where his father was the owner of the Hôtel des Thermes. Together with Paul Cezanne and Émile Zola, he formed a trio that was called the lovebirds and enthusiastic about theater, literature and poetry. Between 1858 and 1861, when Zola already was in Paris, Baille was with this in close correspondence. In 1861, Baille was admitted to the Ecole Polytechnique in Paris and was until 1867 still in close contact with Zola. Baille was subsequently astronomer at the Paris Observatory and took on leadership roles in the factory for optical instruments of his father.

Baille was portrayed The work with the figure of Louis Dubuche of Zola in the novel, what Baille enjoyed little.
