Santa Cruz de Barahona is the largest city in the province of Barahona in the south of the Dominican Republic with 74 958 inhabitants. It is characterized particularly by its ecotourism. In addition, the traditional planting and processing of sugar cane exist. Barahona is the birthplace of the singers Casandra Damiron (1919-1983) and Teresa Pérez Frangie ( b. 1946 ) and the actress Maria Montez ( 1912-1951 ).
