Barakah

Baraka (Arabic بركة, DMG baraka ) is a kind of blessing power in Islam. It is tied to a certain person or to certain things in one place, from which it can be transmitted to other people.

In Islamic folklore articles with Baraka can be "charged", as by placing towels on shrines. After a while they will be picked up and worn again. Sometimes objects are attached with padlocks at the grids of sacred sites for later pick up again.

Baraka can be passed on from one person to his descendants.

In Sufism and dervishhood Baraka gets a very central role.

Baraka also contains the water of Zamzam in the atrium of the Ka'ba.
