Baranivka (city)

Baraniwka (Ukrainian Баранівка; Russian Барановка / Baranovka, Polish Baranówka ) is a city in the Zhytomyr Oblast in Ukraine with about 12,500 inhabitants. It is the center of the Rajons Baraniwka and lies on the banks of the river Slutsch.

History

The town was founded in 1566, in 1938 she was appointed to an urban-type settlement since May 17, 2001, it has the status of a city.

1802 was built by the brothers Metzer a porcelain factory in the town, this exists today. In 2010, an asteroid was named after the city: ( 214487 ) Baranivka. In the grounds of wording the porcelain manufactory was highlighted.

The large Jewish population in town (1939 about 23 percent of the total population ) existed until 1941, after which the majority were killed in concentration camps or escaped.
