Barbara Mandrell

Barbara Mandrell ( born December 25, 1948 in Houston, Texas) is an American country music singer.

Barbara Mandrall was considered a musical prodigy who mastered numerous instruments at a young age. My steel guitar playing impressed even Chet Atkins. At the age of 11, she first appeared on a local television show. A little later she stood with famous country stars, including Johnny Cash and Red Foley on stage. Your music loving parents founded in 1963 with Barbara's younger sisters and two other musicians, a family band, "The mandrels ." The group undertook a long tours throughout North America and Asia. Barbara fell in love with the drummer of the band, Ken Dudley, and married him after the end of their schooling.

First, she retired from the music business. When her husband was drafted into the U.S. Navy and was stationed overseas, the family moved to Nashville. From her father out as a manager, she tried to get a foothold in the local country scene.

Career

In 1969 she signed with Columbia label a recording contract. Just one year later, her Playin 'Around With Love, the first entry in the singles chart. Their first Top 10 ranking in 1971, she managed Tonight My Baby 's Coming Home. A little later she became a member of the Grand Ole Opry. With David Houston several successful duets were recorded.

In 1975, she joined the ABC label. Under the producer Tom Collins, her musical style changed in the direction of mainstream and pop. Almost immediately attracted to the sales figures of their records. After a series of Top 10 successes they managed in 1978 with Sleeping Single in a Double Bed their first number 1 hit. More top rankings followed, including Years, I was Country When Country was not Cool and Til You're Gone. 1981 and 1982 she won the coveted each CMA Award " Entertainer of the Year ". They also received two Grammys and numerous other awards.

In 1980 she got her own television show, " Barbara Mandrell and The Mandrell Sisters ", in which she performed together with her two sisters. Because they had to revise up its 1982 television appearances. A year later she started in Las Vegas stage show "This Lady is a Champ ".

In 1984, her career to an abrupt halt when she had to stay in hospital after a serious car accident one year. In the meantime, the country music had changed.
