Barbara Ruick

Barbara Joan Ruick ( born December 23, 1930 in Pasadena (California ), USA, † March 3, 1974 in Reno (Nevada ), USA ) was an American actress and singer.

Life

She was the daughter of actress Lurene Tuttle and actor Melville Ruick. From 1956 until her death she was married to film composer John Williams. This marriage produced three children: Jennifer ( born 1956 ), Mark (born 1958 ) and Joseph ( b. 1960 ).

Ruick began in radio and then signed a contract with MGM. Her most famous roles, she starred in the musical film Carousel ( Carrie Pipperidge ) and Cinderella (as Esmerelda ). She sang the title role on the first gramophone recording of George Gershwin's Oh, Kay! .

She died during the filming of California Split of a cerebral hemorrhage. The film was subsequently dedicated to her.
