Barbarella (rocket)

Barbarella was the name of the first German hybrid rocket. It was developed in the early 1970s by students of the Technical University of Munich under the direction of R. Schmucker and W. Schauer and on March 12, 1974 started from the jack-up rig " Barbara" in the Baltic Sea. The Barbarella had a thrust of 370N and used as fuel by toluidine -aminophenol mixture and red fuming nitric acid.

On the development and launch of Barbarella rocket and the WARR ( Scientific Workgroup for Rocketry and Space Flight ) played an essential role, which was founded in 1962 by R. Schmucker as a student group at the TU Munich.

The Barbarella is now on display at the Deutsches Museum in Munich.
