Barbu Catargiu

Catargiu Barbu (born 26 Oktoberjul / November 7 1807greg in Bucharest, .. .. † 8 Junijul / June 20 1862greg ) was a Romanian politician and until his death Prime Minister of the country.

Life

Catargiu was the son of the judge Ştefan Catargiu. After school, he lived 1825-1834 abroad, mainly in France. In Paris, he studied history, philosophy and economics. The conservative politician was a good speaker and an advocate of Bojarenstandes. His sworn in as Prime Minister was made on 15 February 1862. Four months later he was assassinated when leaving a parliamentary meeting in Bucharest on 20 June 1862. The backgrounds are indeed still unclear.
