Barcelonne-du-Gers

The community Barcelonne -du -Gers is in France Région Midi -Pyrenees in the department of Gers. At the 1322 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) scoring site passes the GR 65, which largely follows the historical course of the French Road to Santiago Via Podiensis.

Geography

Barcelonne -du -Gers lies in the southwest of France, in the heart of Gascony on the edge of Armagnac, in the river plain of the Adour, at the mouth of his left tributary Lées. She is a neighbor of the small town of Aire -sur -l'Adour. The nearest major town is Mont -de- Marsan, which can be reached in a northwesterly direction over the D30 after about 35 kilometers of road. The next major French cities are Toulouse (135 km ) to the east and Bordeaux ( 129 km) to the north.

History

Barcelonne -du -Gers was founded as a Bastide in 1316 by Philip V. The Order of Malta where he ran a hospice. The Bastide was named Barcelonne in the year 1346. During the wars of religion, the village was in 1569 and in 1591 completely destroyed.
