Bardo National Museum

The Musée national du Bardo (Arabic المتحف الوطني بباردو ) is the largest archaeological museum in Tunisia. It is located about 4 km west of the center of Tunis in the district of Le Bardo and next to the opened in 2011 Zeugma Mosaic Museum has the world's most important collection of Roman mosaics.

In addition to the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, the Bardo Museum is the most important archaeological museum in North Africa.

The museum is mainly housed in the spacious rooms of the former harem of the Bardo Palace, was opened on May 7, 1888. It contains thirty distributed on three floors rooms. The focus of the exhibits is on Roman art, and in particular mosaics, of which about one thousand are shown by large floor decorations to portraits and small-scale representations.

In addition, the museum offers a broad historical and artistic overview, ranging from the early history up to the Punic, Greek, Roman, early Christian and Arabic eras.

The various departments are subdivided into Punic- Carthaginian, Roman, early Christian and Islamic.
