Barea Soranus

Quintus Marcius Barea Soranus ( * before 52; † 65 or 66 ) was a Roman senator in the time of Nero.

In 52 Barea Soranus Suffektkonsul was, and ( possibly 61 ) proconsul of Asia. The upright and humane way of treating the population of the province earned him the affection, at the same time but also the hatred of the emperor who primarily by aggrieved felt that Soranus had refused to punish a city, the statues, the had defended their gods against the Imperial Agent. Soranus was indicted with the help of intrigue because of his familiarity with Rubellius Plautus, a further aim of Nero's hatred, and because of his efforts to the benevolence of the population. One of the main witness against him was Publius Celer Egnatius his client and former teacher. Soranus was (65 or 66 ) sentenced to death and killed himself.

Barea Soranus was with Servilia Considia, daughter of the historian Servilius Nonianus married. Her daughter Marcia Servilia, who was indicted for allegedly magician consulted admitted with regard to the fate of her father, but carried away with the tips against the emperor, and was in his downfall. The fate of the Prosecutor, who was also sentenced to death under Vespasian for his conduct in this case is another example of ingratitude and treachery.
