Baretta is an American detective series that was produced 1975-1978. Robert Blake played the title role, the idea for the series was Stephen J. Cannell.

Action

The New York cop Tony Baretta often works as Undercover. As unconventional loner and outsider, he is not squeamish in his choice of methods, which he repeatedly brings trouble with his superiors and brings him often in dangerous situations.

If Baretta not just determined Undercover, he lives with his cockatoo Fred in a guided from the ex-cop Billy Truman hotel that has seen better times. His set of wheels is a heavily rusted 1966 Chevrolet Impala. Help Baretta receives from his informants Rooster and Fats that keep him informed of what is happening on the streets of New York to date. In the first twelve episodes is his superior Lt. Shiller, then Lt. Hal Brubaker.

Background

The series Baretta was launched by ABC as a successor to the similarly conceived crime series Toma to life after its lead actor Tony Musante had surprisingly announced his departure after the end of the first season.

The title song Keep Your Eye on the Sparrow was originally an instrumental track, but then a text is, and interpreted the title of Sammy Davis, Jr.. The single reached number one in the singles charts in the Netherlands and in Sweden.
