After initially good relations with the Caliphate of Córdoba it came towards the end of the 10th century to the break with the ruling Umayyad there. Two Umayyad campaigns, but also attacks the Fatimids were repelled by the Bargawata. Since the 11th century there was a fierce guerrilla war with the Banu Ifran. Even if the Bargawata were considerably weakened, they could still fend off the attacks of the Almoravids. Thus fell with Ibn Yasin, the spiritual leader of the Almoravids in the fight against Bargawata ( 1059 ). It was not until 1149 that Bargawata were destroyed by the Almohads as a political and religious group.
