Barilius

Barilius canarensis

Barilius is a genus of danios ( Rasborinae ). The freshwater fish are found in southern Asia from Asia Minor to Southeast Asia, in China and Japan. They inhabit a school of fish, especially mountain streams, but also rivers of the plains.

Features

Barilius species have a moderately elongated, laterally flattened body and reach a length of five to 30 cm. The mouth is large, the column foot deep. The pharyngeal teeth are in two to three rows. Barilius species up to two pairs Bartel have ( rarely ), or without barbels. The fish are silver stained in most cases, with a dark pattern. The side line is, if it is complete, on the lower half of the body. The beginning of the dorsal fin is behind the pelvic fin base. From the rays of the dorsal fin are the first three undivided, the third and longest imperforated. They primarily eat insects.
