The Barilla Group is an Italian food company, with headquarters in Parma ( northern Italy), which is the Italian leader in the pasta segment. History

The Group was founded in 1877 in Parma. From 1971 to 1979 the company was owned by the U.S. company WR Grace and was then bought back by the family Barilla. In 1999, the Swedish company Wasa was purchased.

Acquisition of Kamps and selling in parts

2002 Barilla acquired for 1.8 billion euros, the German bakery chain Kamps. In August 2010, three bakeries and 900 branches were Kamps ( 2009 sales: 300 million euros ) but sold to the private equity firm ECM Equity Capital. The remaining part ( the brands Lieken Urkorn and Golden Toast ), initially remained at Barilla. This part was sold as Lieken AG in 2013 to the Czech Agrofert group.

Corporate Structure

Barilla owns 49 production sites, including numerous flour mills for its own production supply. These are located mainly in Italy ( 15 sites ), but there is not least due to acquisitions and production locations in Germany, Greece, Norway, Sweden, Turkey and the USA.

80 percent of the company are owned by Guido Barilla (Chairman ) and his sons Luca, Paolo and Emanuela (Management). The remaining 20 percent of the shares belong to the Swiss Hortense Anda- Buehrle.

Controversies

End of September 2013, there were calls for a boycott against Barilla, because their leader Guido Barilla said in a radio interview with the Italian station Radio24: "We will turn any advertising homosexuals, because we support the traditional family.
