Barium borate

Beta - barium borate ( β - BBO BaB2O4 or ) is a crystalline form of barium borate, which is optically birefringent and is characterized by high optical nonlinearity.

Benefits of BBO ( especially compared to potassium KH2PO4, short KDP) are nearly 6 times as high nonlinearity and a wide range of wavelengths (about 210-2100 nm), in which the crystal is transparent. Similar BBO KDP can also be used in laser pulses of very high energy density ( high damage: 5 GW/cm2 at 1064 nm wavelength, and 10 ns pulse duration).

Refractive index

The refractive indices no and ne of BBO are the sell - Meier equation

Described. Publications in different values for the experimentally determined Sell Meier coefficients ( A, B, C, D) are specified. For example, the values of Kato:

Applications

  • Frequency doubling and mixing ( generation of sum and difference frequency) of the pulsed laser light.
  • Correlation to measure the pulse duration and shape of ultrashort laser pulses.
  • Optical parametric oscillator.
  • Pockels cells.
