Barium chlorate is a barium salt of chloric acid. It has the formula Ba ( ClO3 ) 2 and belongs to the group of chlorates.
Production and representation
In the laboratory it can be prepared by electrolysis of a solution of barium chloride, barium chlorate which fails.
Properties
Barium chlorate is a colorless powder, which decomposes above 250 ° C. It is a powerful oxidizing agent. Like all chlorates must be handled carefully also that connection.
Use
In pyrotechnics barium chlorate is rarely used. For a green flame coloration nowadays used barium as preparations may react violently with barium chlorate to shock, impact and friction.
Barium chlorate is currently used and produced relatively rare compared to potassium chlorate and sodium chlorate, only in minor amounts.
