Barjols
Barjols ( in Provençal Barjou ) is a town in the French department of Var in the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur. The town has 3069 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) on an area of 30.06 km ². Barjols is the administrative center of the canton Barjols.
The name " Barjols " has its roots in Old French: "cash " means hill and " Jouls " pretty, resulting in " Barjoulx " and finally emerged the present name.
Geography
Barjols located about 20 km north of Brignoles and Saint -Maximin- la -Sainte -Baume, about 50 km from Draguignan and Manosque, and about 70 km from Fréjus, Marseille and Toulon in a hilly, forest, vineyards, olive and agriculture dominated landscape, which is crossed by numerous rivers and streams. The source of the Fauvéry located northeast of Barjols.
Buildings and monuments
The opulent townscape Barjols evidence of historical importance and wealth. Protected by a city wall and defensive gates close ties, steep streets and vaulted passages which, situated on the edge of a hillside houses with some remarkable facades.
Because of its numerous fountains, springs, and not least its 14,000 m² of shady Grande Place with its named after François- Juste -Marie Raynouard fountain, Barjols is also known as the Tivoli in Provence.
- The Maison du Marquis de Pontevès called home is classified as a monument historique. It was built in the 16th century and has a Renaissance façade and a portal me ornate pilasters.
- Likewise, as a monument historique applies the Collegiate Church of Notre- Dame-de- l'Assomption, which dates back to the 11th century. Towards the end of the 13th century the chancel was rebuilt, the rest of the building dates mainly from the period 1540-1560. The facade is Gothic. The stone font is below a tympanum from the 13th century.
Museums
The Maison Regionale de l' Eau, which is housed in a restored former hospital, informed in exhibitions and freshwater aquariums on the fish population of the region.

Barjols maintains a partnership with the Italian place Garessio in Piedmont.
