Barley Wine

Barley Wine is a very strong Alesorte, with at least 7 % alcohol, some with up to 13% and correspondingly high wort. The name derives from the wine (English: Wine ), because the alcohol content is rather similar to a wine because of a normal beer.

Taste

Barley Wines are preferably consumed in the winter and usually have a reddish, dark coloration. They are also characterized by their foaming, which is so firmly that anything left in the empty glass foam structures. They usually taste sweet at first because of its high alcohol content, but hit the finish to the bitter and hoppy. This is due to their relatively high Stammwürzanteils. Furthermore, there are also wild berries, oak, whiskey and salt water flavors, and often wine flavor, which is achieved by the high concentration of ale yeast.
