Barnekow

Barnekow is a municipality in the center of the district of North West in Mecklenburg -Vorpommern ( Germany ). The municipality is since 1 January 2005 by the Office Mecklenburg- bath small, located in the municipality Dorf Mecklenburg administered (before the now defunct Office Gägelow ).

Geography

The community Barnekow is slightly hilly, sloping terrain towards the Wismar Bay directly on the southwestern outskirts of the Hanseatic city of Wismar.

To Barnekow include the districts Großwoltersdorf, Wolter small village and Krönkenhagen.

History

The community is rich in archaeological sites of the pre-and early history. Friedrich Schliemann mentions

  • The discovery of several bronzes in 1880 in the bog between Barnekow and Großwoltersdorf
  • Skeletal remains and stone tools discovered in 1868 Großwoltersdorf on the way to the dam Husen
  • On the way from Großwoltersdorf after Stoffersdorf, in the immediate vicinity of the bog, where in 1880 the bronzes were found, a Wendish Castle Wall
  • A former medieval fortress on the southern outskirts of Großwoltersdorf

The manor was Barnekow 1789-1864 owned by the family of Chocoholics, from 1888 to 1945 in the family of Behr Negendanck. The old manor house was demolished in 1989.

Barnekow is situated directly on the motorway and 20 on the highway from Wismar to Greve mills. The nearest railway station is located in Wismar.
