Barney Frank

Barney Frank ( born March 31, 1940 in Bayonne, New Jersey ) is an American politician (Democratic Party). From 1981 to 2013 he represented the Fourth Congressional District of the State of Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives. He was there until 2011 Chairman of the Finance Committee. On July 7, 2012 Frank married in Newton (Massachusetts ) his longtime life partner and thus had received the first same-sex marriage of a congressman.

Early years

Frank studied for his education at Harvard University, where he attained his bachelor's degree in 1962. During his doctoral studies, he worked as an assistant and was in this context classes. Even before reaching the Ph.D. he, however, left Harvard to Chief Assistant to become the Mayor Kevin White in Boston. After three years he became the Administrative Assistant for the Members Michael J. Harrington.

1972 Frank was elected as an MP in the House of Representatives of Massachusetts, where he worked for eight years. During this time he attended Harvard Law School, graduating in 1977.

During these years he also taught temporarily at the University of Massachusetts Boston, the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard and at Boston University. Frank has published several political articles. In 1992 he published an essay entitled Frankly Speaking about the role of the Democratic Party, which should play them in the 90s of the 20th century.

Congressman

1980 Frank was elected to the U.S. Congress. He took over the seat of Robert Drinan, who had given up his mandate. Frank was re-elected in 1982 and defeated the Republican candidate against Margaret Heckler. In the following years, including last Nov. 2, 2010, Frank was re-elected regularly.

In 1987, Frank at his own request his homosexuality public. He founded in 1998 the organization Stonewall Democrats, which campaigns for the rights of homosexuals.

In 2003, Frank was opposed as chairman of the House Financial Services Committee to the efforts of the Bush administration and the Republican congressman to regulate the home financing industry more to avert a looming financial crisis, one of the biggest government intervention since the savings -and -loan crisis would have mattered. For this purpose, an authority should be created within the Ministry of Finance, which was Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac supervise, two government-sponsored companies that were among the largest companies in the U.S. Hypothekarkreditwesen. Frank said during a debate: "These two companies, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac control to on any kind of financial crisis. " He added: "The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure on these companies overloaded, the fewer results we will see in terms affordable house building. "Among other things, for these reasons it an active complicity in the financial crisis starting in 2007 has been repeatedly accused.

On 28 November 2011, announced that Frank will not face re-election in 2012.
