Barnitz, Germany
Barnitz ( Low German Barns) is a municipality in the district of Stormarn in Schleswig-Holstein. The community is located east of Bad Oldesloe and consists of the villages Benstaben, United Barnitz, Small Barnitz and Lokfeld.

Geography
The villages of the municipality is situated along the river Trave in a picturesque river valley. This landscape was designed in the late ice age as a reason or terminal moraine, where soil material has broken down after the snow melts, which have pushed before them the glaciers. As in the entire eastern part of Schleswig-Holstein, the so-called hill country. Therefore, the soil consists largely of the so-called glacial till, which is quite large boulders includes the parts. History
The municipality was created in 1970 as a merger of the previously independent municipalities United Barnitz, Small Barnitz and Lokfeld. In 1938, this merger was planned, but failed. On 1 January 1978, the neighboring Benstaben was incorporated.
The place name is probably Wendish, ie westslawischer origin. The meaning is not entirely clear. On the one hand, the name might refer to the foundation by a ' Berislav ' as a local founder, but more likely is the derivation of the name from the description of local conditions. Literally translated into High German means ' Barnitz ' even so much as ' Birch Au', which indicates a passed with birch river valley. A direct connection with the river Barnitz, which further merges with Bad Oldesloe in the best and then as best with the Trave, therefore, can not necessarily be deduced despite the relative proximity. Benstaben
Benstaben was first mentioned in 1263. There was then a part of Lübeck cathedral chapter. From 1352 to 1582 the village belonged to the monastery Reinfeld, then it was administered by the old sovereign Official Reinfeld. Upon formation of the sovereign Rethwisch Office 1671 Benstaben was placed there. 1761 serfdom was abolished. After the introduction of the Prussian municipal constitution in 1889, the village belonged to the new office district Rethwisch. In 1948, he was to be allocated part of the Office Reinfeld country around 1972 the Office Nordstorman. At its incorporation to Barnitz on 1 January 1978 Benstaben had 176 inhabitants.
Great Barnitz
Great Barnitz was founded in 1200 under the German East settlement. Small Barnitz
Small Barnitz was first mentioned in 1170 as Bernice and was a founding Wendish. In 1233 it came as a gift to the cathedral chapter of Lübeck. Since 1571 Klein Barnitz was Lutheran. It was like all the possessions of the Lübeck Cathedral Chapter outside the city to the Prince-Bishopric of Lübeck, since 1803, the Principality of Lübeck.
1842 Small Barnitz came as part of a swap area to Holstein, where he was assigned to the sovereign's official Rethwisch. The school, founded in 1680 was 1843, in a community school with large Barnitz on. Lokfeld
Lokfeld was first mentioned in documents in 1189. The village includes a village with 40 houses and four settlements in the courts ' Heckkaten '. The Federal Highway 1 from Hamburg to Lübeck strips the municipality between Benstaben and small Barnitz, next driveway is Reinfeld ( 3 km). The nearest railway station is also in Reinfeld. The villages are about 10 km from Bad Oldesloe and 50 km from Hamburg and 17 km from Lübeck. Barnitz belongs since 1972 to the Association of Schools of Reinfeld. In the village there is no separate school more.
Culture and sights
A revival of cultural life in the community is recorded in several guest appearances as the Lübeck operetta in the country in the ballroom in the United Barnitz, there have continued to settled some visual artists in town, concert and offer exhibitions, film nights.
