Barnwell (Alberta)

Barnwell is a village in southern Alberta, Canada with a population of 613 (2006). The small community has a senior center, two parks and a public library.

History

In the late 19th century, a freight car standing on a siding where Barnwell is today. It was used by the settlers and the railroad company as a telegraph. The environment initially called Woodpecker, was renamed in 1908 in Bountiful, in order to align it with the name of the school. A short time later she got her present name, Barnwell, because another community had already given the name Bountiful. The name comes from William Barnwell Barnwell, an employee of the Canadian Pacific Railway, ago.

Many of the early settlers Barnwells were miners who worked in the coal mines close down. When these mines were closed in 1920, however, they left Barnwell again.

Demography

Situated at 835 meters in altitude has a population of 613, which is distributed to 182 households. With an area of 0.9 km ², this results in a population density of 680.5 inhabitants per square kilometer.
